PowerBar was the first energy bar developed to provide long-lasting nutritional benefits for both professional athletes and dedicated amateurs. It was created in 1983 while the company was incorporated in 1986. By 1994 the company grew to be so large that an entire manufacturing facility was constructed in Boise, Idaho to manage the production and distribution of the original bar. The next ten years were all about expanding the PowerBar line to add gels, whole wheat bars, low calorie bars, sports mixes, and energy bites. PowerBar was acquired by Nestle, Inc. in 1999 and sponsored the 2000 Olympic Games.
