| Aqua Sphere or Tyr belt?

I've tied both the Aqua sphere (ankle wraps) and Tyr (waistbelt) tethers, and have found both to be effective for swimming in a backyard pool, and far cheaper than building a bigger pool. In terms of value, the aqua sphere is a more complex product; the Tyr belt is basically a belt with a bungee cord. I've only used these a few times, so it is too early to assess quality and longevity. I found the ankle-wrap style to be prefereable for flutter-kicking; because the Tyr uses a line that passes right up to the belt, it can get in the way unless it is raised well out of the water. For breastroke, I actually prefer the Tyr belt; the ankle wraps boost the kicking phase, rather than providing resistance against it, and the stroke seems to go more naturally with the waistbelt tether. So far, I haven't seen much difference on the dolphin kick, but I don't have good form anyway, so I'll let someone else comment on that one. | ||||||||
